  • Big Latch On 2015 Breaks Record!

World Breastfeeding Week 2015 - August 1st-7th Wow, what a turnout!  This year a record breaking 14,889 children were counted breastfeeding for the one minute, worldwide Big Latch On at 10:30am on July 31st and August 1st!  An incredible 654 locations were registered across 28 countries.  Go mamas! The Big Latch On is a global event organized each year to bring awareness and support to breastfeeding families and to kick of World Breastfeeding Week. Momzelle is very proud to have been involved in over 40 individual events this year.  I was on a camping trip during the Big Latch On, but my son seemed to sense the occasion as he nursed much more than usual that weekend :) I did attend an event with...
  • The Breastfeeding Cover-Up

This is not a post about nursing covers. This is a post about breastfeeding support. It is about those who consider themselves breastfeeding supporters, what a breastfeeding mother considers supportive and the often huge disparity between the two. I married into this company (my husband and his sister started Momzelle together, just as he and I started dating).  I started working in the company when I was pregnant with my first child.  I have the distinct privilege of being immersed in the breastfeeding community for my job, and it has made an incredible impact on my personal life.  I am so proud to have helped build a community on our Facebook page that is interactive, informative, entertaining and supportive.  I love getting a conversation going.  Lately, though...
  • Breastfeeding Slows Us Down...In the Best Way Possible

Breastfeeding Past Infancy As my son quickly approaches his fifteenth month breastfeeding, I am suddenly very aware of how active he is!  He isn't just walking, he is running to keep up with his older sister.  He is squirming to get out of my arms to play with toys.  He is constantly banging on the pantry door, looking for a snack.  But no matter how busy we get, our little family of four, when my son wants milk, he and I get to slow down.  We curl up on the couch and stop everything else.  We have eye contact and a few smiles.  I am really trying to capture these moments lately, as they seem to be fewer and farther between. The first few...
  • Breastfeeding see, Breastfeeding do!

First of all, hello again!  I blinked and suddenly I have a nine month old son and an entire summer and fall without a blog post!  But I am back and plan to keep this space updated on all things breastfeeding and Momzelle :) My daughter has grown into the role of big sister just wonderfully over these last few months.  At first she was a little weary of the tiny creature that moved in and took up so much of her mama's lap space.  Now she yells "Alex needs mama's milk" at the first little whimper of her brother (she yells that in French, but we'll leave our biligual household to another post!) This summer we finally caught a photo of what...
  • Here we go again...Breastfeeding a new baby!

It has already been over a week since the birth of my second child.  Time goes so fast!  I have been transported back to those early days of motherhood and back to the beginning of a breastfeeding relationship.  It has been two years since I was cuddled with a newborn, spending the days skin to skin getting to know each other.  My toddler weaned during the first trimester of this pregnancy.  My most recent memory of breastfeeding is wrangling a 14 month old at bedtime.  Newborns and all their nuances are a whole different nursing experience. My breastfeeding journey with my daughter began with a rough start, as you can read here.  Working through obstacles in those early days lead to over...
  • The Best Baby Gift

This post was written by a guest blogger, my mom!  I'm honoured to have her attending the birth of my second child (any day now, I'm forty weeks this week!) as both my mother and my doula.  Here she shares her experience as a grandmother, mother, doula and former breastfeeder.   The best gift for a new baby is not the absolutely adorable layette you just couldn't stop yourself from buying, or the latest piece of baby equipment Mom said she just must have, or the personalized silver spoon or piggy bank.  The best baby gift in my opinion is time with a Lactation Consultant.  I hope by sharing our experiences I will be able to convince you that this is true.We also...
