According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, breastfeeding is extremely beneficial to newborn babies. After all, breastmilk affords them the perfect formula of nutrients and antibodies. In a study noted by breastfeeding advocacy group La Leche League, babies who breastfed were less likely to develop allergies and asthma than those who didn’t. As for emotional health, skin-to-skin contact helps develop the bond between mother and child. Many women are determined to breastfeed their babies because of these many benefits. Learning to breastfeed can be a challenge for some women, but finding a comfortable, supportive place to breastfeed can really help. Here are just five suggested most comfortable places to nurse your baby.

A Recliner

Avoid narrow wooden chairs or rockers with armrests, which may constrict your baby’s movement as she feeds. Instead, opt for a cushioned chair or sofa that supports your back while giving your baby wiggle room. This is a great way for you to have somewhere comfortable to sit and it can also provide you with a nice place to sit and rock your baby.

In bed

Though most moms breastfeed upright, there’s no rule against nursing horizontally. Sometimes this is just the ticket for an exhausted mama and ever-hungry newborn. Find a bed with a supportive mattress. Though you should avoid falling asleep with your baby if possible, you’ll find a supportive mattress is quite possibly the most comfortable place to breastfeed your baby.

The Backseat

Sometimes your baby will be hungry while you’re out and about. Though ladies lounges used to be a common sight in department store restrooms, those days are long gone. You might find that the backseat of your vehicle offers the most privacy and comfort while you’re away. The tinted windows in many cars offer you privacy, and many cars are outfitted with comfy upholstery.

A Restaurant Booth

This one might surprise you, but a secluded booth in a bustling restaurant can actually be a great place to breastfeed. One perk is that you might get in a few bites while your little one does! A cushioned booth provides support and privacy and the din of white noise can often lull your baby. If you prefer, use a nursing cover for added privacy and to limit baby’s lunchtime distractions.

With A Nursing Pillow

Sometimes the perfect comfy nursing location is elusive. However, a handy U-shaped nursing pillow can make almost any spot a comfortable place to nurse. Plop yourself against a wall and sit cross-legged. The pillow hugs your exposed middle while also bringing your baby up to the ideal height to nurse comfortably.

Finding a comfortable spot to nurse can help both you and your baby relax, an important factor in having a successful let down and feeding time. Try out one of our top five comforting breastfeeding places the next time you’re ready to nurse and enjoy a cozy and nurturing time with your baby.
