Breastfeeding photos and Kim Kardashian
It’s been all over the internet and even the news, so it is likely that you have seen the recent magazine cover of Kim Kardashian. As social media girl for Momzelle, I follow lots of wonderful breastfeeding-related Facebook pages and have found this resounding question come up again and again; why is Kim K’s picture okay but mother’s nursing their children are found offensive?
Here are a few of my favorite memes and articles on the subject.
“Wait! I don’t get it. No disrespect to Kim but… people are offended by my breastfeeding selfies & are fine with her (amazing) booty cover?” A great quote from Alyssa Milano who has shared a few photos of breastfeeding her two children over the years. This one being my recent favorite:
Then there is this hilarious spoof from Breastfeeding Mama Talk (photo of photographer and mom, Jamie Wittwer):
An excellent article on Huffington Post by The Leaky Boob sums it up well: “There are those who are totally fine with breastfeeding photos, but take issue with sexualized objectifying images of naked women, and those who cheer for the sexy nudie shots, but call breastfeeding images disgusting, because having a sexual fantasy about a woman’s body is all fine and good, but adding a baby to the picture seriously crosses a line”.
I say to each their own! Women’s bodies are beautiful and we should be proud. How publicly proud you are is up to you!
Is there hypocrisy in censoring breastfeeding photos but not Kim K’s? Do/would you post breastfeeding selfies? Tell us your thoughts.
